Every Demon In The Bondsman Explained
With the introduction of numerous human and demonic characters, The Bondsman's first season broadens its supernatural lore. The Bondsman, starring Kevin Bacon, is based on a well-known plot in which a man named Hub returns from hell and is given another chance at life after being hired by the devil to hunt down demons. In an attempt to escape his terrible destiny, Hub kills demon after demon until he comes across ones that are a bit too strong.
A new demon character is introduced in almost every new episode of The Bondsman, which follows the standard monster-of-the-episode format of many supernatural TV series. The main character's stakes are perfectly raised in the Kevin Bacon horror-comedy series as each new demon becomes noticeably more powerful. The Bondsman has a total of six demon characters over the course of its eight episodes. The majority of the six wind up going back to hell after meeting Hub, the show's protagonist.
Lilith
In season one of The Bondsman, Lilith is presented as the last demon character. In the show's finale, she appears in the human realm and appears to be far more powerful than any of the demons that appear in the series. According to Midge, Lilith had an exceptionally lovely voice and was once God's favorite angel. But after a while, the other angels became envious of her and tricked her into joining Satan's uprising against God. God consequently exiled Lilith and consigned her to hell, where she would have to endure an eternity devoid of music.
Following decades of Satanic torture, Lilith acquired mind-control skills that enabled her to murder men in the most heinous manner imaginable. She has the same talent for turning women into her followers. Sheryl, the woman Hub unintentionally killed, is the first person Lilith possesses after entering the human world.
Hub successfully catches Lilith in his pentagram trap during the conclusion of The Bondsman's story. Lilith, however, presents him with an irresistible offer: if he lets Sheryl go, she will live and he will be spared his terrible destiny. Hub accepts the offer and commits the grave error of putting his trust in a demon. In The Bondsman's last arc, Lilith takes control of Hub's wife, Maryanne, and threatens to wipe out humanity if Hub doesn't fight alongside her against the devil.
Pyralis
In the penultimate episode of The Bondsman season 1, Hub embarks on a quest to track down Pyralis, the fire demon. Since halting Pyralis is crucial to humanity's future, his family and Midge team up with him this time. According to Midge, if Pyralis succeeds in sacrificing a human, he may open the door for a shackled angel to enter the human world, which would be problematic for them. Unfortunately, Hub and his group are unable to stop Pyralis in spite of their best efforts. Thus, in The Bondsman, Pyralis completes the inverted pentagram and lets Lilith into the human world.
Slypharis
It is revealed in episode 5 of The Bondsman that Slypharis is an air demon who gives his victims the "kiss of death." Even though his actual origins are unknown, Hub's mother discovers when she searches for his name online that he emerged during times of extreme violence. Some legends claim that he emerged from the depths of an active volcano, symbolizing the violence and wrath of humanity. According to other legends, he was born in the blazing crucible of Hades.
In The Bondsman, Slypharis first takes control of two male characters, and Hub tries to murder them both with a sniper rifle. But before he can finish his mission, Lucky captures him, much to his dismay. In the episode's conclusion, Hub runs into the two demons once more and kills both of the men Slypharis possessed with the chainsaw.
Erdos
In episode 3, Erdos, the third demon in the series, appears in the human world. Before Hub gets the fax to kill him, he targets Deputy Sheriff Briggs and takes him hostage. Upon researching the demon's name online, Hub discovers that Erdos is an Earth demon, signifying an additional edge of the pentagram's five edges. In episode 3, Hub confronts Erdos at a nearby hardware store while Maryanne, his wife, is by his side. Because of this, his wife also becomes involved in his efforts to exterminate demons for the devil.
Marphos
In the first moments of The Bondsman episode 3, Marphos targets a high school cheerleader and enters the human realm. He murders her before assuming control of her body, as all demons do. Hub's mother gets a fax about his murder shortly after he gets there. She investigates the origins of Marphos and discovers that he usually came from Egypt, and that Nordic aquatic and seafaring animals have been used as examples of him.
Marphos' connection with water makes a lot more sense when the show's finale reveals that each demon Hub encounters represents one of the five edges of a pentagram: spirit, earth, water, air, and fire. Even the showdown between Marphos and Hub unfolds in a local swimming pool, where Marphos nearly drowns Hub to death. However, Hub eventually manages to overpower him and send him back to hell by destroying his host before it is too late.
Valacor
Shortly after Kevin Bacon's Hub consents to hunt demons for the devil and send them back to hell, the first demon, Valacor, appears in The Bondsman's second episode. As demonstrated in the first scenes of episode 2, Valacor takes control of a local priest and uses his body as a means of ruthlessly murdering Lucky's men. Hub's mother offers to assist him when he sets out to find the demon. At first, Hub appears reluctant to involve his mother, but he ultimately consents. When his mother saves his life during his battle with Valacor, this turns out to be a wise decision.
