Avengers: Doomsday Cast Announced
The Avengers: Doomsday cast list has been formally confirmed by Marvel Studios in advance of the film's 2026 release. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, announced last summer that Avengers 5, formerly known as Avengers: Kang Dynasty, would take a different approach. Feige revealed a new MCU antagonist in the form of Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom following a lackluster reception to the villain Kang and the departure of Kang actor Jonathan Majors. After that, the title of Avengers 5 was changed to Avengers: Doomsday, but the precise cast of Earth's Mightiest Heroes remained unknown.
Marvel Studios announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday and confirmed that the film is currently in production during a live stream on websites like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Instagram today. Filming will continue for at least the next few months, with the release date set for May 1, 2026. Below is the complete cast list for Avengers: Doomsday:

What the Cast of Avengers: Doomsday Means
Characters from every stage of the MCU as well as actors from other franchises were included in the cast announcement for The Avengers: Doomsday. Given that the Multiverse Saga is the title of the current three MCU phases, 4-6, this makes sense. Marvel has been experimenting with the multiverse in both film and television, and Doomsday and Secret Wars, the sixth Avengers film, will both wrap up that plot.
Notably, the announcement featured a number of the stars of Marvel's 2025 releases, including several characters from the upcoming movies Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It's unclear if that indicates they'll have significant roles in Avengers: Doomsday or if Marvel is attempting to highlight the significance of these movies. Naturally, since Doctor Doom is primarily a villain for the Fantastic Four, it would make sense for them to play a significant role in Doomsday. It's less clear why there are so many Thunderbolts* characters.
Another noteworthy addition is Kelsey Grammer, who returned to the role of Beast, also known as Hank McCoy, from the Fox X-Men universe in The Marvels post-credits scene, marking his MCU debut. This suggests that the X-Men universe will play a significant role in Avengers: Doomsday, as does the number of other returning original X-Men cast members. Channing Tatum's character Gambit, who debuted in Deadpool & Wolverine last summer, will have her first opportunity to co-star with prominent X-Men figures like Professor X and Magneto.
Our View of the Avengers: The Cast of Doomsday
Since The Avengers, a crossover that brought the entire franchise together in 2012, Marvel's Avengers films have always been major events. With a long and impressive cast list that includes members of the entire MCU and beyond, it is therefore not surprising that Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be another huge event. How well each of these characters meshes with the rest of the Avengers: Doomsday cast is still up in the air.
Some characters are completely unknown to one another, but others have connections—in addition to the Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have previously collaborated extensively. For instance, since the Fantastic Four currently exist in different multiverse universes, it is unclear how they will interact with Fox's X-Men or the other Avengers characters.
The true test will be how well Marvel manages to bring all these characters together. One reason why Avengers: Endgame was so successful is that it reduced the size of the cast from Avengers: Infinity War to a much smaller group that was given most of the film's attention. With a cast as big as Doomsday's seems to be, the MCU may be in for another Infinity War, with several storylines that could be both beneficial and detrimental. The Avengers: Doomsday plot and how it ties the characters together will ultimately determine this.
